Whether it’s endless rain or just too damn hot, the summer season has been brutal for outdoor enthusiasts looking to find some respite in nature. Sometimes it’s just better to hang up your hiking boots, pitch the tent in the living room and cozy up for an indoor weekend movie binge. Pack the bong, turn the lights low, and hit play on these classic must-see stoner movies that helped shape cannabis culture as we know it.

Friday (1995)

Throwing it back to the 90s, Friday, along with its sequel, Friday After Next, will always be classic stoner movies. Starring Chris Tucker and Ice Cube, two best friends Craig and Smokey set out to have the best Friday, smoking on the finest weed. The two find themselves in trouble when Smokey’s dealer demands he pay up his debts.

Dude, Where’s My Car? (2000)

The title says it all in this stoner comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott. Two buds, Jesse and Chester, wake up after a night of heavy partying and smoking and can’t seem to remember where they left their car. Adventure ensues as the duo tries to retrace their steps from the night before in hopes of finding it. 

Pineapple Express (2008)

The infamous pot-head duo Seth Rogan and James Franco, star in this smoke-filled action comedy adventure about a man named Dale who, while having a smoke sesh in his car, accidentally witnesses a murder. Fleeing straight to his weed dealer, Saul, the two go on the run from the murderers who want to keep them silent. 

Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (2004)

A simple quest turns into an action-packed adventure as two stoner friends set out with the sole mission of obtaining some delicious White Castle burgers. Starring John Cho and Kal Penn, this hilarious pair of opposites get into all sorts of shenanigans while trying to satiate their need for some damn good burgers.

The Big Lebowski (1998)

Mistaken for a millionaire, The Dude is kidnapped and entangled with powerful people he’s never met before; but, he couldn’t care less. He just wants his rug replaced. Although The Dude may prefer a White Russian drink, he is a walking stoner stereotype, with an uncouth attitude. Jeff Bridges and John Goodman bring their unique characters to life in this hilarious classic.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)

A comedy empire that has inspired many quotes and references, Jay and Silent Bob are staples in stoner culture. Strap in for this wild adventure as the stoner duo head to Hollywood. Starring Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith along with other familiar faces like Ben Affleck, Will Ferrel, Judd Nelson, Carrie Fisher, Jason Lee, and more!

Half Baked (1998)

The classics wouldn’t be complete without mentioning comedic genius, Dave Chappelle. Chappelle stars in the best of stoner movies alongside Guillermo Diaz, Harland Williams and Jim Breuer. When one of them lands themselves in prison, the other three put their stoner heads together on how to raise the money to get him out.

Cheech & Chong’s Up In Smoke (1978)

We are taking it way back for this one. Created in the 70s, but still talked about to this day, Cheech and Chong have created part of the backbone for stoner culture as we know it. Starring Tommy Chong and Cheech Merin, two friends attempt to smuggle a bunch of marijuana from Mexico to the US; but the feds are onto them.

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (1998)

This movie is sure to have your mind bending. If the cover doesn’t give it away, the first few minutes will. Starring Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro, two friends head to Las Vegas for a drug induced weekend that questions all of reality.

Smiley Face (2007)

Shout out to lady stoners! Anna Faris stars in this hilarious story about a woman who accidentally ate an entire plate of infused cupcakes and tries to go about her day while her head has floated off into the clouds.
